Identification in North Carolina NC leaves it up to the Local Education Agency or LEA to provide identification procedures that will allow all students to have appropriate educational services. LEA's should:
Make procedures for identification are clearly communicated within each community at large
There should be multiple criteria for identification
Make sure to include under-represented populations
Perform screenings, referrals, and identification processes frequently
Keeps documentation to help explain identification procedures
Identification in Durham Public Schools AIG leadership teams work with AIG specialists in their school to help communicate and make sure that state laws are being followed. Students are universally screened in 2nd and 6th grades.
What do the various labels such as AG, IG, and AIG mean? AG = Academically Gifted Score in the 90th percentile on a nationally normed achievement test AND end of grade test at or above 85% or at least 3 performance artifacts. *Examples are artifacts include but are not limited to: above grade level work samples, interview using district rubric, ESL progressions, outstanding achievement outside the classroom, and teacher rating scales that show gifted traits in learning. IG = Intellectually Gifted Age level composite score of 96% or above on nationally normed aptitude/achievement test
AIG = Both Academically and Intellectually Gifted Meet the criteria for both AG and IG
